Dome Installed at Unit-6 of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant

On September 8, the containment dome was successfully installed at Unit-6 of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant in northeastern China’s Liaoning Province, seven days ahead of schedule. The dome installation marked the completion of construction work on the second phase of the power plant and the beginning of the interior furnishing and equipment installation stage for Unit-6.

At 5:16 a.m., the crane began the mission on schedule, and after 59 minutes of a series of highly difficult movements including hoisting, moving, rotating and docking, at 6:15 a.m., the hemispherical dome was precisely positioned to within only two millimeters of error — a precision surpassing current standard.

The second phase of Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant consists of two units, of which the No.5 nuclear reactor already saw successful installation of a steel-lined dome on April 12 this year. The crane used this time to install the dome for Unit-6 is an LR1650 crawler crane which previously served the steel structure installation at Bird’s Nest, the main venue of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
